We’re kooky, but hopefully not too creepy…

Sleeping Beauty May 30, 2009

Filed under: Elyse — hjhadams @ 7:27 pm

Yesterday I peeked in on Elyse napping and it made me so sad to see how fast she is growing up.  It seems like just yesterday she was being swaddled up and sleeping in one spot all night…now she’s all over the crib and looks like such a big girl in her crib.

A progression of the sleep…

Here she is on August 9th, only 5 days old

In mid-February, just after we stopped swaddling her…she moved on to her Grobag, and thankfully she transitioned easily out of the swaddle

And Friday – almost 10 months old  😦

The “Big” Ultrasound May 27, 2009

Filed under: Pregnancy — hjhadams @ 4:48 pm

Today we had our 20-week ultrasound for this pregnancy and were so glad to find out that everything looks perfect!  The baby is measuring within one day of our due date of October 12th.  Although it was hard, we were able to stick to our guns and not find out the sex of the baby.  There was a lot of movement and the heartbeat is strong – 148 bpm.  Baby had hiccups during part of the ultrasound and I’m pretty sure he/she waved to us at one point.  🙂

And a bonus – a 4D picture of baby’s face!  (You have to look closely but it’s there…you can see a good line of the nose, lips and chin especially.)

Yet Another “Catch-Up” Post May 21, 2009

Filed under: Elyse — hjhadams @ 7:57 am

I have a bunch of new pictures of Elyse that I wanted to share, and rather than making several new posts, I decided to just throw them all into one and say “Here are pictures from May!”

We’ve started Elyse on finger foods and “big people” food, and so far she has loved everything.  Seriously.  Everything.  I really hope that this continues to be her case.  Here she is having fun in her high chair and giving me some good smiles.

Last weekend the three of us headed to the zoo and Elyse got to help daddy feed the goats.

The other day I realized it was awfully quiet in the living room, where Elyse is usually playing.  I walked in to find this…

The next day I looked over to find THIS…

At first I couldn’t figure out why she had the book so close to her face…and then it hit me.  The book has a little mirror on each page and she was looking at herself!  (Now I know she’s definitely related to Aunt Alyssa & Uncle Fabulous!)

Finally, the other night we took advantage of the GREAT weather we’ve been having and joined my friend Angie and her boys at the park.  Elyse got to swing for the first time, and she seemed to really enjoy it!

Nine (and a Half) Months Old! May 20, 2009

Filed under: Elyse — hjhadams @ 11:43 pm

I can’t believe that it’s been over two weeks since Elyse turned nine months old.  Time is going by far too fast.

We went to see her pediatrician, Dr. Young, on her nine month birthday.  She had to get one shot and her finger pricked to test her iron, but she took it like a champ and did really great.  Her stats are as follows:

Weight:  19 lbs 3 oz  (60th percentile)

Height:  28 3/4”  (90th percentile)

Head:  44 1/2 cm  (70th percentile)

Last week we took her to JCPenney to have her nine month pictures taken, and we’re very happy with how they turned out!

Michigan Getaway

Jim had some time off of work before starting his new job, so two weeks ago we headed to Michigan for a few days.  We drove to Saugatuck and stayed on the Kalamazoo River.

On Tuesday we drove to Holland, MI, to check out the Tulip Festival.

After the Tulip Festival we drove to Lake Michigan to check out the beach.  It was SO beautiful, and the water was so clear…makes me sad that the beaches on our side of the lake aren’t so nice.

Elyse LOVED the sand.  She was so interested in it, and was covered head to toe by the time we left.

We had a really great time even though it was a quick trip.  We were able to relax for a few days before Jim had to go back to the “real world”.

Peanut #2 May 1, 2009

Filed under: Pregnancy — hjhadams @ 6:37 pm

As most of you know, we found out in early February that we’re expecting another bundle of joy this October.  Even though it was a bit of a surprise, we are excited nonetheless.

The pregnancy started out smoothly, nausea and all.  Then about four weeks ago we had a bit of a scare.  I woke up on Saturday morning and knew immediately that something was wrong.  I called the doctor on call and told her my symptoms and at first she told me to wait and see.  About 45 minutes later I called her back to tell her things seemed to be worse.  She advised us to head into the ER.

Two and a half hours later we were finally taken in for an ultrasound and we saw that the baby was fine and the heartbeat was strong.  Needless to say we were beyond relieved.  We had already been through two ultrasounds before the visit to the ER and seen the baby moving around and a heartbeat.  The technician at those ultrasounds also saw what she believed to be a fibroid, which is fairly common during pregnancy.  However, the technician during our visit to the ER saw something else; I had actually been pregnant with twins and I was miscarrying one that hadn’t developed.  (It’s actually a fairly common occurrence sometimes referred to as a ‘Vanishing Twin’.)   The doctor in the ER confirmed this, and we’ve been back to my midwife’s office twice since then.

Although we were sad to hear about the loss, we still feel very blessed to be having one healthy baby.  They will continue to follow my pregnancy closely just to be sure, but what has happened should not affect Peanut #2 in any way.  I will be 17 weeks this coming Monday.

Here are some pictures of our newest little one, and we are taking suggestions as to what we should call him/her.  (And for those of you who are wondering, we will be finding out the sex of this one on or around October 12th on his/her birthday!)
